MC Kickboxing & Fitness prides itself on producing great technical fighters. The techniques the students learn is built over a period of time and only when they can attain a good level can the student grade.
Our aim is to produce students who have earned their belts not just turned up.

  • Controlled one step sparring illustrating offensive and defensive named techniques

Pad Work

  • Right Cross > Left Hook > Right Round Kick

Drills

Orange 7th KYU

  • Rolling Evasion
  • Pressing Block
  • Elbow Blocks

Combinations

  • Jab > Cross > Jab > Cross > Slip > Right round kick
  • Fein left > side kick > stepping side kick
  • Left hook > Roll (with hook) > Left hook > Right side kick

Sparring

  • 1 & 2 Step sparring against named attacks, Illustrating basic offensive and defensive skills.
  • Counter Sparring, Illustrating the ability to deliver a named counter attack against a named attack.

Pad work

  • 3 x 1.5 minute rounds with 30 seconds rest using:
    • Jab > cross > left hook > right cross
    • Double left round kick > double right round kick

Drills

  • Punch out drill 3 x 1.5 minute rounds with 30 seconds rest
  • Kicking drill 3 x 1.5 minute rounds with 30 seconds rest
  • Squat Kick drill 2 x 1.5 minute rounds with 30 seconds rest

Green 6th KYU

  • Ability to move in all directions
  • Throwing basic named combinations whilst moving

  • Open Hand Slap.

Leg techniques

  • Jumping Round Kick
  • Jumping Front Kick
  • Spinning Hook Kick

Defence

  • Front foot push away

Combinations

  • Lead leg low round kick > High lead leg round kick > spinning hook kick
  • Jab > Cross > Left hook > rear round kick.

Sparring

  • Continuous light sparring for 3 x 45 second rounds

Drills

  • Punch out drill 3 x 1.5 minute rounds with 30 seconds rest
  • Kicking drill 3 x 1.5 minute rounds with 30 seconds rest

Blue 5th KYU

  • Shadow Boxing, 2 minutes Illustrating ability to move and turn in all directions whilst delivering punches and kicks.

  • Stepping Cross
  • Jumping Cross
  • Spinning Back Fist

Leg techniques (Performed onto pads)

  • Turning Side Kick
  • Low Round Kick to thigh
  • Round kick to jumping round kick

Defence (Illustrated with a partner)

  • Low forearm block
  • Has a basic understanding of locks /restraints

Combinations

  • Low round kick to high round kick
  • Front kick to side kick

Sparring

  • 3 x 1.5 minute rounds of semi contact sparring

Drills

  • Punch out drill 3 x 2 minute rounds with 30 seconds rest
  • Kicking drill 3 x 2 minute rounds with 30 seconds rest

Fitness test

  • 40 Push Ups
  • 60 Sit Ups
  • 60 Squat thrusts

 

Purple 4th KYU

Stance

  • 2 rounds of shadow sparring

Arm techniques

  • Elbow strikes
    • Upward
    • Hooking
    • Over the top
    • Spinning elbow

Leg techniques

  • Front Knee
  • Jumping turning Side Kick
  • Spinning hook to jumping front
  • Jumping Knee

Defence

  • Restrain an attacker (take downs/ground pins/strikes/releases/headlocks)

Combinations

  • Jab > Cross > Slip > Right Cross > Left Hook > Right Uppercut > Left Uppercut
  • Left Side Kick > Turning Back Kick (Rear Leg) > Jumping Front Kick
  • 3 x random combinations assigned on the day

Sparring

  • 3 x 2 minute rounds of semi contact sparring ( multiple attackers)

Drills

  • Punching and kicking drills will be assigned on the day

Fitness test

  • 50 Push Ups
  • 70 Sit Ups
  • 70 Squat Kicks
Brown 3rd KYU

3rd kyu

 

  • The student must illustrate the ability to coach both basic and advanced techniques presented by the examiner.
  • The student must be able to recall all moves from the syllabus upon request.
  • The student must be able to produce and demonstrate both basic and advanced combinations.

Leg techniques

  • Double jumping front (crash mat required)

Pad work

  • 4 x 2 minute of boxing drills assigned by the examiner.
  • 3 x 2 minute rounds of kicking drills assigned by the examiner

Sparring

  • 3 x 2 minute rounds of semi contact sparring
  • 2 x 1 minute rounds coaching a novice on the basics of sparring.
  • (Multiple attackers can be used when sparring.)

Grappling & ground techniques

  • 2 x chokes
  • 2 x arm locks
  • 2 x throws
  • Defence against multiple attacker using both Grappling and striking techniques

Fitness test

  • 60 press ups
  • 80 sit ups
  • 80 squat thrusts
Brown/White 2nd KYU

2nd kyu

  • The student must demonstrate the ability to coach advanced techniques presented by the examiner, taken from previous grading’s.
  • The student must be able to take an effective warm up and understand what happens to the body and why we warm up.
  • Demonstrate pressure points, names and their uses.

Drills

  • 4x 2 mins boxing drills
  • 4×2 mins Kicking drills

Sparring

  • 2x 3 min rounds of semi contact sparring 1 minute rest

Fitness test

  • 70 press ups
  • 90 sit ups
  • 90 squat thrusts

 

Brown/Black 1st KYU

1st kyu

 

  • The student must be able to take the lesson under supervision showing structure and drills.
  • The student must produce a lesson plan and follow it with timings and content adhered to.
  • During the lesson effectively demonstrate any techniques required answering to the students requests.
  • The content must be of the lesson plan must contain basic and complex drills
  • If the lesson is not complex enough the assessor may intervene and the student will fail the grading
  • Student must demonstrate a series of 10 flowing moves emphasising: balance/style and fluidity.

Fitness test     ( to be taken separately in another lesson)

  • 80 push ups
  • 100 sit ups
  • 100 squat thrusts

 

1st Dan

  • Assessment begins with covering all previous belts (selected by senior instructor)
  • The student must illustrate the following before being considered for a black belt grading
  • 1 Years assistant coaching under the supervision of an existing instructor Black Belt
  • Have a good training attendance record
  • First Aid trained
  • Completed student evaluation forms
  • Assessment of coaching skills to a group of novice Kickboxers
  • Demonstrate 2 new combination moves to potentially be included in our training syllabus.
  • 3 x 2 minute rounds of pad work (combinations provided on the day)
  • 5 x 2 minute rounds of sparring (Semi/full contact)

Fitness test

  • 100 push ups
  • 100 crunches
  • 100 squat thrusts
